CIVIC CENTRE PARK

Public BBQ

Cannington Memorial Park presents a study in contrasts. The wetland setting delivers genuine serenity, native flora, waterbirds gliding across the water, and walking paths that locals quietly treasure. The amphitheatre overlooks sweeping grass areas where Anzac services and Christmas carols draw crowds, while a toddler-focused playground offers slides, playhouses, and sand areas. The barbecue facilities, however, tell a different story. Of four units, typically only one functions properly, with vandalized equipment and scattered rubbish suggesting maintenance struggles. The sharp embankment near the cooking area demands vigilance with young children. Signage warns of snakes during warmer months,a genuine concern near the wetlands. Despite the bin shortage and barbecue deterioration, the park's natural beauty and community event hosting capabilities keep families returning, though perhaps with lowered expectations for the cooking facilities.
